Eat More For Less; Eat Less For More
This project looks at:
• supermarket advertising slogans and consumption
• slapstick horror
• bulimia and transformation
• permeability and altruism with the non-human
Eat More For Less; Eat Less For More is an ongoing healing / sculptural / performative / written / animated project which began by thinking about the capitalist alienation of eating inherent in supermarket marketing strategies.
The work in this series exist in a fractured position between sculpture, virtual simulations and bodily change: digestive medication is sculpted into changed forms of treatment; fictional internal bodily performances are enacted; 3D animated gifs produce paranoid fantasies; and a plant grows from transformed human digestion suggesting if we change our consumption habits, non-human life would benefit. I want to consider the parallels between eating disorders and the current global consumption of its materials, the agency of materials and how materials could alter human consumption for the better.
